5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan) is a naturally occurring amino acid that the body can use to synthesize the neurotransmitter serotonin and the hormone melatonin.
As a neurotransmitter, serotonin carries messages between the brain and organs throughout the body, playing a key role in the connection between the gut and brain. Serotonin is known as the ‘feel good’ neurotransmitter and melatonin is of course, the hormone that increases production in the afternoon/evening to tell our body to prepare for sleep.
Healthy serotonin and melatonin production can support mood, sleep quality, normal stress responses and brain function.
