Is O2B Bowel Support a fibre supplement or a laxative?
It is a combination formula.
Psyllium and linseed provide fibre, while cascara has a stimulant laxative effect. Slippery elm and fennel provide additional digestive support.
Is it suitable for everyday use?
No. Because it contains cascara, prolonged use exceeding one week at a time is not recommended.
It should be taken only when required unless a healthcare professional advises otherwise.
How many capsules should I take?
Take two capsules once or twice daily before meals, with plenty of fluid.
Follow different directions only when provided by your healthcare professional.
Why do I need to drink plenty of water?
Psyllium absorbs water and expands.
Taking fibre without enough fluid may make constipation worse or cause discomfort. Swallow the capsules with a generous glass of water and maintain normal hydration throughout the day.
How quickly will it work?
Response times vary depending on hydration, diet, bowel motility and individual sensitivity. Do not take additional capsules beyond the recommended amount to force a faster result.
Is it suitable for chronic constipation?
It is designed for occasional, short-term use.
Constipation that regularly returns, lasts more than a few days or requires frequent laxative use should be discussed with a healthcare professional.
What is cascara?
Cascara is the aged bark of Rhamnus purshiana. It contains natural compounds that stimulate contractions in the large intestine and encourage bowel movement.
Can cascara become habit-forming?
Frequent stimulant-laxative use may cause the bowel to become reliant on stimulation and may disrupt normal electrolyte balance.
This is why the product should not be used continuously for longer than one week.
Can I take it with medication?
Cascara and fibre may reduce or alter the absorption of medicines.
Separate Bowel Support from medication by at least two hours and consult your doctor or pharmacist before use.
Can I take it with other fibre supplements?
Combining several fibre products may increase bloating, fullness or digestive discomfort.
Check the total amount of fibre you are taking and increase it gradually with adequate fluids.
Can I take it with another laxative?
Do not combine it with another laxative unless advised by a healthcare professional.
Combining laxatives may increase the risk of diarrhoea, cramping, dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.
Can I take it during pregnancy?
No. We advise against taking it during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Can I take it if I have irritable bowel syndrome?
People with IBS may respond differently to fibre and stimulant herbs.
Speak with a healthcare professional before use, particularly if your symptoms include severe pain, diarrhoea or alternating bowel habits.
Can I take it if I have a bowel obstruction?
No. Do not use it if you have, or suspect you may have, a bowel obstruction, impaction or stenosis.
Seek urgent medical care for severe abdominal pain, vomiting, swelling or an inability to pass stool or gas.
Will it help with weight management?
Psyllium fibre may contribute to fullness, but Bowel Support is not a weight-loss product.
It should not be used as a laxative for controlling body weight.
What should I do if it causes diarrhoea or cramping?
Stop taking the product and maintain normal hydration.
Seek professional advice if the symptoms are severe, persistent or accompanied by weakness, bleeding, vomiting or significant abdominal pain.
