Vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol, is a fat-soluble nutrient that the body can produce when skin is exposed to sunlight.

Vitamin D3 is required for the body to absorb calcium and maintain appropriate calcium: phosphate levels for normal bone mineralisation. Vitamin D also supports muscle function, immune wellbeing and normal communication between the brain and body.

Most people in New Zealand receive much of their vitamin D through sunlight. However, vitamin D levels can be harder to maintain when direct sun exposure is limited by the season, location, lifestyle, age, skin pigmentation, clothing or time spent indoors.

What is O2B Vitamin D3 used for?

O2B Vitamin D3 is designed to support calcium absorption, healthy bone formation and maintenance, normal muscle function and immune wellbeing.

What is vitamin D3?

Vitamin D3, or cholecalciferol, is a fat-soluble form of vitamin D. The body can produce it when skin is exposed to UVB sunlight, and it can also be obtained from some foods and supplements.

How many capsules should I take?

Adults take one capsule daily with food, or as directed by a healthcare professional.

Why should I take vitamin D3 with food?

Vitamin D is fat-soluble. Taking it with a meal containing some dietary fat can support its absorption.

How long does one bottle last?

A bottle contains 90 capsules and lasts approximately 90 days when taking one capsule daily.

Does everyone in New Zealand need a vitamin D supplement?

Not necessarily. Most people can obtain enough vitamin D through sensible sunlight exposure and food. Supplementation is generally most relevant for people at increased risk of deficiency or those advised to take it by a healthcare professional.

Who may be at greater risk of low vitamin D?

Risk may be higher for people who:

  • Have limited direct sunlight exposure
  • Spend most of their time indoors
  • Live in cooler southern regions
  • Have darker skin
  • Cover most of their skin when outside
  • Are older or have limited mobility
  • Have been identified as at risk by a healthcare professional

Is vitamin D especially relevant during winter?

Vitamin D levels can be lower during winter because UVB exposure is reduced and people often spend less time outdoors. This can be especially relevant in southern areas of New Zealand and for people who already receive limited sunlight.

What does vitamin D do for bones?

Vitamin D supports calcium absorption and helps maintain the calcium and phosphate levels required for normal bone mineralisation and remodelling.

Does vitamin D support muscles?

Yes. Vitamin D is needed for normal muscle function. New Zealand health guidance identifies both bone health and muscle function as important roles of vitamin D.

Does vitamin D support the immune system?

Yes. Vitamin D has a role in normal immune function. It should be positioned as supporting immune wellbeing rather than preventing or treating infections.

Can I take O2B Vitamin D3 with O2B Vitamin K2?

These products may be considered together, but check the current Vitamin K2 formula because it may already contain vitamin D3. Consider your total daily intake and seek professional advice if unsure.

Can I take Vitamin D3 with a multivitamin or calcium supplement?

Possibly, but check how much vitamin D is already included in the other product. Avoid unintentionally combining several sources of vitamin D without considering the total amount.

Can I take too much vitamin D?

Yes. Excessive vitamin D intake can raise calcium levels in the blood and cause harmful effects. Follow the label and do not take additional vitamin D products without checking your total intake.

Should I have a vitamin D blood test?

Routine testing is not necessary for everyone. Speak with your GP or healthcare professional if you have recognised risk factors, ongoing concerns or have been advised to monitor your level.

What foods contain vitamin D?

Food sources include oily fish such as salmon, trout, sardines, tuna and mackerel, as well as eggs and some fortified foods. UV-exposed mushrooms can also provide vitamin D.

Can I take O2B Vitamin D3 during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Consult your healthcare professional before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding so your individual needs and total vitamin D intake can be considered.

Is O2B Vitamin D3 suitable for children?

The product directions are written for adults. Do not give it to a child unless advised by a qualified healthcare professional.

Suggested Dose:

Adults 1 capsule daily with food or as directed by your healthcare professional.

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin and may be better absorbed when taken with food containing healthy fats.

Who is Vitamin D3 for?

You might leave home before the sun is properly up, spend most of your working day indoors and arrive home after dark. During a New Zealand winter, it can feel as though your skin has barely seen direct sunlight for weeks.

O2B Vitamin D3 may be relevant if:

  • You spend most of your day indoors
  • You live in a cooler southern region with lower winter UV exposure
  • You have darker skin and need more sunlight exposure to produce the same amount of vitamin D
  • Clothing, sun protection or your daily routine limits direct sunlight on your skin

Why take Vitamin D?

Winter and modern routines do not always make sunlight easy to access.

You may understand that spending time outside is important, but that advice can feel disconnected from real life when you work indoors, care for someone at home, avoid strong UV exposure or live somewhere with long, grey winters.

O2B Vitamin D3 offers a practical way to support your vitamin D intake when your circumstances make natural production more difficult.
