Dimethylglycine-HCl (DMG)
Dimethylglycine (DMG) is a naturally occurring derivative of the amino acid glycine and forms part of the body’s methylation and one-carbon metabolism pathways. DMG-HCl is the hydrochloride form commonly used in supplements because it provides a stable source of dimethylglycine.
It is often included in formulas for cellular energy, physical performance, immune support and healthy metabolism.
Methylation and Cellular Metabolism
DMG is produced naturally when the body metabolises choline and betaine.
During this process it participates in the transfer of methyl groups, which are used in many biochemical reactions involved in DNA regulation, neurotransmitter production, amino-acid metabolism and normal cellular function.
DMG is eventually broken down further into sarcosine and glycine, linking it with several important metabolic pathways.
Energy and Physical Performance
DMG has traditionally been used in sports and performance formulas because of its connection with cellular metabolism and oxygen utilisation.
